RE subject vision
As reflective members of our school community our pupils will have the opportunity to explore the world around them. We offer our pupils' a concept based RE curriculum that leads to knowledge through enquiry and through this develop an understanding of other religions and cultures through the teaching of RE, allowing the children to become more inclusive, accepting and tolerant of others. Pupils at the Meon Valley Federation explore religious beliefs in depth - appreciating the similarities and differences between Christianity and other faiths such as Hinduism. We want children to develop a cultured world view that encourages them to self-reflect and develop empathy for others regardless of race or religion. Through their understanding of the concepts and their religious links we want the children to become further skilled in thinking critically, reasoning and justifying their own ideas about spiritual, cultural and moral concepts as well as being able to challenge the ideas of others in a respectful manner.

How do we teach RE?
We teach by following the enquiry cycle as outlined in Living Difference IV. This leads the children through the process of Enquiring, Contextualising, Evaluating, Communicating and Applying. The units of learning focus on a key concept, with the context of different faith traditions. This allows for personal reflection and engagement not only with big ideas (the concept) but also with the different traditions of others in the world.
The teaching of the Christian context units is supported by high-quality teaching material from Understanding Christianity.
